St Leonards launches new Postgraduate Year for 2026
10 October 2025
St Leonards has announced the launch of a new pre-university Postgraduate (PG) Year, the first programme of its kind in Scotland. Beginning in August 2026, the PG Year will offer students aged 17 to 19 an opportunity to consolidate their academic strengths, build independence and prepare for the transition to university.
Designed for young people who have completed high school, the programme provides tailored academic pathways to support strong university applications and deepen subject expertise. Students will also take part in co-curricular, sporting and cultural activities, and will live within the school’s boarding community while pursuing their academic, creative or personal goals.
The PG Year combines a broad academic curriculum with enrichment and life skills, drawing on St Leonards’ longstanding focus on intellectual and personal development. Its location in the heart of St Andrews provides a rich setting for exploration, supported by opportunities for travel and cultural engagement.
Head of St Leonards, Mr Simon Brian, said:
“The pre-university Postgraduate Year at St Leonards represents a unique opportunity for young people to pause, reflect and prepare with purpose for the next stage of their lives. Our PG Year provides the ideal environment for students to grow academically, personally and socially, while developing the independence and confidence that will serve them for life.”
Deputy Head (Academic), Will Gaisford, added:
“The Postgraduate Year gives students time and space to refine their academic focus while building the skills that universities and employers value most. It blends academic challenge with personal development, supported by expert guidance as students plan their next steps.”
Applications opened in October 2025, with the first intake beginning in August 2026. Early applications are encouraged.
