St Leonards Holds Solo Piping Competition

The first St Leonards Solo Piping Competition offered pupils the chance to perform in chanter, slow air and march sections.

27 March 2026

St Leonards held its first Solo Piping Competition on Friday, 27 March, bringing together pupils to perform across a range of piping styles. The event was organised by visiting music tutor Mr Bryan Sinclair of Sinclair Piping Services and judged by Mr Angus Clarke, who has been involved in piping in Highland Perthshire for over 40 years. He joined the Vale of Atholl Pipe Band in 1975 and has recently completed 20 years with the Pipes and Drums of the Atholl Highlanders, where he is Pipe Sergeant.

Pupils competed across three sections: chanter, slow air and march. Year 5 pupils also joined the audience to support their friends Saif and Patrick as they performed in the chanter section. In this category, Year 8 pupil William M took first place, while Year 12 pupil Archie D won both the slow air and march sections and was named overall winner.

Well done to Saif C, Patrick M, William M, Albert Z and Archie D for their performances. A strong first competition, and we look forward to it returning next year.
