The St Leonards Golf Championships returned on Wednesday, 18 March, welcoming players from Junior through to High Performance level for a full day of competition across the Jubilee, Eden, Strathtyrum and Balgove courses.

Held annually in partnership with the St Andrews Links Trust, the Championships bring together schools from across the UK and internationally to compete on some of the most recognised courses in the game. This year, 270 players from 15 schools took part, including visiting teams from Le Régent (Switzerland), Choate Rosemary Hall (USA) and Golfclub Würzburg (Germany).

Played in clear March conditions, the day saw a strong standard of golf across all levels, with a great atmosphere throughout.

In the Tom Morris Championship, Constantin S claimed the title with an impressive round of 70 (-2) on the Jubilee Course. Theresa R was the leading female, winning the Lady Bonallack Trophy with a round of 74 (+2). Daan S secured third place, with Tristan V taking the nett prize.

In the Sir Michael Bonallack Championship, there was success for visiting schools. Robbie M (Hutchesons’ Grammar School) finished in first place, followed by Rory G and Freddie S of George Watson’s College in second and third. Harrison F (George Watson’s College) took the nett prize.

Over on the Balgove Course, the Junior section brought together players from local and visiting schools, including Erskine Stewart’s Melville Schools, Anstruther Primary School and St Monans Primary School.

In the U12 handicapped category, Erin D placed first, followed by Hamish W and Robbie B. In the U9 handicapped category, Jack G took first place.

In the non-handicap events, Hunter B (St Leonards) won the U12 category, with Archie D and Gregor C in second and third. In the U9 category, Oliver M placed first, with St Leonards pupils Andrew Z and Riagan B finishing second and third.

Well done to Hunter, Andrew and Riagan in Year 4 for their performances on the Balgove Course.

Thank you to all players, visiting schools and partners, as well as the volunteers and staff across the Sports Department, St Leonards Golf Academy and ProdreamUSA for their work in delivering the event. We look forward to welcoming schools back again next year.
