Welcoming Back Senior Shao Hao Li

Reflecting on boarding, identity and the path from St Leonards to the arts.

14 November

We were delighted to welcome back St Leonards Senior and singer-songwriter Shao Hao Li (Class of 2009) to campus in October and November. Shao spent time with Head, Mr Brian, talking about his experience as a young international pupil from China, how boarding helped him settle into life in Scotland, and the ways St Leonards shaped his sense of identity.

Shao returned to film his new music video ‘Where Is My Home’ here on campus. The song is inspired by his memories of arriving in Scotland as a teenager and navigating a cross-cultural identity. His visit follows an earlier stop in March as part of his UK school tour.

Since leaving St Leonards, Shao has built a successful career as a songwriter and artist, writing for major East Asian musicians and contributing to well-known TV and film projects. He often speaks about how his years at St Leonards gave him the confidence to pursue a creative path and embrace the things that make him different.

It was a real pleasure to welcome Shao back and see him reconnect with the place that played such a formative part in his story. You can watch the video that captures their conversation and highlights his journey from St Leonards to life as an artist here.
