Academic Achievements 24/25

Year after year, the hard work, resilience, and dedication of our students consistently lead to outstanding results in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP), International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme (IBCP), and the General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE). The 24/25 academic year has been no exception, as our pupils have once again set new benchmarks of success.

International Baccalaureate

Diploma Programme

St Leonards students  achieved an average International Baccalaureate Diploma score of 36 in the 2024/25 academic year, with 23% of candidates scoring 40 points or above.

Career-related Programme Results

The 2024/25 Career-related Programme cohort achieved an average UCAS tariff points score of 163, which is higher than the equivalent of A*AA at A Level or AAA at Advanced Higher.

GCSE/IGCSE Results

In 2024/25 the Pre-IB and Year 11 cohorts an impressive 55% of grades achieved were 7-9 at GCSE, with excellence across the board. Of particular note were the outstanding STEM results, with 74% of candidates achieving a grade 7-9 in Science.

University Destinations

Our pupils pursue higher education across the globe, with their choices reflecting a broad range of aspirations and academic excellence. Annually, about one third attend Scottish universities, another third pursue their studies elsewhere in the UK, and the final third embark on their academic journeys at international institutions. Life after St Leonards

Some of our former pupils, known as Seniors, share their stories of how their time at school influenced their university and careers choices, and life after St Leonards. Hear below from former pupil, Lauren Hastie, who is currently studying Classics at the University of Edinburgh.

What is your favourite memory of St Leonards School? I have so many memories from St Leonards that it’s very difficult to pick just one above all others. Whether it’s playing hockey with a Santa suit on, learning how to play bass guitar while dancing in the Jazz Band or even the photoshoot that ended up with me featuring on the back of a bus! I’d be here for months if I was to recall them all.

What part did St Leonards School play in giving you the necessary skills for your chosen path? St Leonards definitely set me up well for university. Not just academically but also socially. Knowing how to write a good essay was just as advantageous as knowing how to be the first to introduce yourself in a group of new people. St Leonards really is true to its motto as it sets you up for life in so many ways. I find it interesting how the term ‘Ad Vitam, ’in Latin can mean to or for life. The skills you learn are to prepare you for life and the memories are for life.

What are your ambitions? Because I didn’t know what I wanted to do after school, Classics was the perfect option for me as the skills you learn can be transferred into almost anything. Currently, something I’m considering as a future career path is Law. Though, I have to say this is subject to change as I change my mind like the weather! One week I feel like composing for Walt Disney, the next I fancy writing for The New York Times or my favourite, becoming a fighter-jet pilot, the options are endless!

What advice would you give to current pupils contemplating entering your field? I would say keep an open mind and enjoy whatever you do. It won’t be easy so ask questions, make connections and don’t be afraid to get something wrong. It’s the getting back up that sets you apart from others.

What advice would you give to current pupils about making the most of their time at St Leonards School? Grasp every opportunity you are given. From singing for Her Majesty the Queen to shooting for Scotland, none of this would have happened without St Leonards. But you have to be willing to take the opportunities. Never played hockey? Try it out. You never know what might become of it. Regardless of the outcome, you’ll make great friends and memories that you’ll treasure forever. Get stuck in, you’re only at school once!
