Meet our Head of Art & Design

David Prosser

The Art Department believes that art is a form of communication: that it is a means of expression, aesthetic experience and problem solving. Throughout all year groups, our aim is to encourage, stimulate and develop pupils through personal expression, imagination, conceptual thinking and practical skill. Regular excursions are arranged with the goal of developing the pupils’ artistic appreciation.

The Art Department

In two beautiful and historic buildings located on the southwest side of the campus, St Leonards Art Department caters for all age groups including Junior, Senior and Sixth Form pupils.

Art is offered as part of the curriculum and as an after-school activity, life-drawing classes are also held regularly to enable students to develop their technique. Our dedicated teaching staff have a variety of expertise including experience in drawing and painting, printmaking, sculpture, black and white photography, digital photography, textiles, computer-aided design and video art.

Each year, the Department showcases the work of its young artists by staging a well-attended public Art Exhibition in June. The opening of the annual St Leonards Art Exhibition is typically celebrated with a summer drinks event, complete with live music and canapés, which provides an opportunity for families and friends to preview the work on display. It is always a highlight of the Summer Term calendar.
