Annie P Excited for Challenge of Scottish Under 14 Open Championship

Annie P is hoping to put into practice the invaluable lessons she’s learned at the St Leonards Golf Academy in next week’s Scottish Under 14 Open Championship.

Annie is a pupil at St Leonards in St Andrews, a school that provides the opportunity for youngsters to combine academic excellence with world-class golf development through its renowned Golf Academy and unique partnership with the St Andrews Links Trust.

The 14-year-old is one of 144 junior golfers from 15 nations taking part in this year’s event at Edzell Golf Club (10-11 August) which, for the first time, is sponsored by St Leonards.

Last year, Annie was part of the field at Crieff Golf Club and she’s excited to join an international line-up for the 2026 edition.

Annie said:

“At St Leonards I get to I combine my schoolwork and then I have structured time allocated to my golf.

“For example, usually on a Wednesday I have a lesson with my coach Fintan Bonner at the academy and then I practise chipping and putting or go out on the course.

“There are a few girls together in the golf programme and there’s a lot involved from the introduction to high performance squad.

“I really enjoy being a pupil at the school  – I’ve lived all my life in St Andrews and it’s great this academy programme is available in the town.

“I played last year at Crieff in this event. I had a lot of fun. I didn’t play my best, but the weather was nice and it was a great experience.

“I like playing with better players as it helps me to improve and I feel that the more chances I have to play in these events the better I’ll become.

“Last year I played with two English girls and aside from the golf it’s good fun meeting new people your own age.”

Boys and girls from the four home nations as well as from countries such as USA, Estonia, Netherlands, Spain and Italy will be competing in the 36-hole stroke play event.

A year ago, France’s Jayson Piermont (pictured above) lifted the title, beating Scotland Fraser M, who coincidentally is also a pupil at St Leonards, in a thrilling play-off.

The championship is a great way to bring together some of the game’s most talented boys and girls allowing them to play in mixed format and compete for the one trophy.
