Techno Challenge

Primary Pupils Take on the Techno Challenge, a full day of STEM activities

9 June 2026

Last week, St Leonards welcomed Primary 6 pupils from seven local primary schools for our annual Techno Challenge, a day packed with exciting STEM-based activities designed to inspire curiosity, creativity and teamwork.

We were delighted to host pupils from Dairsie, Kingsbarns, Castlehill, Canongate, Wormit, Newport and Lawhead Primaries. Throughout the day, teams worked together to tackle a series of engaging challenges that showcased different aspects of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Activities included coding robots to navigate mazes, and perform choreographed dances, exploring the science of sound by creating music using laboratory beakers, and putting their problem-solving skills to the test in a fast-paced maths relay challenge.

The event gave pupils a taste of the hands-on, inquiry-based learning that is central to the IB STEM programme at St Leonards, while also providing plenty of opportunities to collaborate, compete and have fun.

Congratulations to Canongate Primary, who were crowned overall winners of the 2026 Techno Challenge, with Lawhead Primary finishing as worthy runners-up.

A huge thank you to all the pupils and staff who took part and helped make the day such a success. We look forward to welcoming everyone back for another Techno Challenge next year.
