All of our boarding houses at St Leonards have their own identity, and St Rule, our combined house for boys and girls, with East and West wings, is no exception. The only mixed house of the three, St Rule is home to boys and girls, and cleverly splits down the middle, with the ground floor serving as a bustling social hub for house life.

The ethos in St Rule is that community living should be approached with respect and consideration for others, while recognising the needs of the individual. Students are encouraged to take pride in the house which in turn fosters a sense of community spirit.

An extensive refurbishment of the communal areas, completed in 2019, has created a spacious and stylish kitchen, common room and games room, all of which are integral for house activities, whether it be Ping-pong competitions, cookery, crafts or evening hot chocolates on the bean bags and comfy sofas.

Throughout the year, St Rule has a varied programme of activities for boarders including weekend trips to outdoor adventure centres, shopping and museum visits in Edinburgh, go-karting, paintballing and even spa days!

When there are school plays on, St Rule boarders attend them together as a house, and students may go to Friday early evening screenings of the latest films at the New Picture House cinema in St Andrews.

So much happens in St Rule over the course of a year, but what is key is that friendships are at the heart of this warm and welcoming house.
