Middle Years Programme
Ages 11-14 (Years 7 to 9)
Introduction to the Middle Years Programme
Pupils in Years 7 to 9 at St Leonards follow the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme, known as the MYP. The curriculum is centered around concepts that allow pupils to focus on both knowledge and understanding. Through inquiry-based learning, they are taught to process, critically evaluate and communicate information, and have the opportunity to develop their research, social, self-management and thinking skills.
It is a globally-recognised educational programme, which encourages reflection, action, and preparation for life and further academic study, in line with the ethos of St Leonards.
MYP Leadership Team
The Community Project
All Year 9 pupils at St Leonards undertake an extended community project, bringing together the threads of their three-year MYP learning journey. Pupils must identify a need on a local, national or international level, propose an action, and seek to make a meaningful difference.
Assessment
Pupils are assessed on their attainment throughout the Middle Years Programme through debates, compositions and written work. Parents are also invited to attend Pupil-led Conferences, at which the students share and discuss their learning.
