Yesterday, our Year 4s travelled to the Forth Bridge Visitor Centre to learn all about bridge building as part of their current Unit of Inquiry : transport networks provide travel for different purposes.
After enjoying the panoramic views across the forth and learning about the bridges in front of them, Year 4 had a go project managing their very own bridge build! Split into two teams, they took the roles of Project Managers, Health & Safety Managers and even Quantity Surveyors to get the job done! Both groups pitched their plans to real life Civil Engineer Elaine Barrie, before getting to work with their bridge blocks. The secret was working as a team to complete the perfect bridge. Our Quantity Surveyors had to oversee delivery, while the H&S Manager ensured safety throughout all under the watchful eyes of the Project Managers. By following elevation and plan views the children worked as teams to complete their bridge. A fantastic time was had by Year 4 - they return not only understanding the importance of teamwork but also the differences between cantilever, suspension and cable stayed bridges! Watch out Lord Sugar!
