Lily Driscoll, a final year student at St Leonards School, and St Leonards Senior Robert Thomson, were invited to join Rotary Club members for lunch at The New Golf Club, St Andrews, to share their experience on the Rotary Young Leadership Awards (RYLA) programme this summer.
RYLA is an intensive leadership development programme organised by Rotary for young adults, enabling pupils to discover their potential, make connections and develop the core skills required to become an inspiring leader.
Speaking to Rotary members, the pupils shared how they thrived in the unfamiliar environment, meeting fellow attendees and participating in indoor and outdoor team-building activities designed to encourage leadership, teamwork and communication.
Both Robert and Lily thanked the Rotary Club of St Andrews for giving them this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, which has resulted in new skills, new friendships and lasting memories.
RYLA is a worthwhile experience for all involved and, wonderfully, contributes towards the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award. Thank you to the Rotary Club for sponsoring such an inspiring programme.
