03.10.22 : Year 12 Millport Trip

Our Year 12 Biology students set off on a weekend trip to explore the Isle of Cumbrae. Despite a delay due to inclement weather, the pupils made a safe crossing to the Field Studies Centre at Millport.

The weekend away is designed to give students practical experience and skills in order to complete their internal assessment (IA) in the summer term. It also gives pupils the opportunity to bond with their classmates.

The pupils set off early to gather data along the rocky shore, noting the changes in plant and animal life, sand dune succession, nurdle and plastic analysis collection. Pupils also learnt how to create and conduct a questionnaire.

Many of the students on the trip were inspired by the project, repeating some of the experiments upon return to St Andrews.
