In celebration of the University of St Andrews’ Green Week 2023, we were delighted to welcome University staff and Transition volunteers to St Leonards to plant 100 trees.
Green Week is a week of environmental action led by the St Andrews Student Union’s Environment Subcommittee and supported by Transition. The theme of 2023 is “Removing Barriers: A Collaborative Town and Gown Environmental Week of Action”. We were eager to get involved in this wonderful initiative, collaborating with the local community to take part in tree planting sessions.
With gloves, spades and shovels at the ready, our Pupil Leadership Team buddied up with our Year 4 pupils to help plant the young ‘whips’ along the grassy panel. With 100m length to fill, the students got to work, planting a tree every metre.
A species mix of downy birch, silver birch, rowan, crabapple and dogwood were laid. The entire treeline fills the east border, which will grow into a beautifully bushy and leafy patch of land.
A big thank you to the University of St Andrews and the Transition Team for this memorable opportunity. Our pupils are excited to watch their trees grow and look back in years to come!
