Our Year 10 historians set off for the WW1 battlefields of Ypres in Belgium and the Somme in France at the end of May.
The group visited numerous sites of national importance including the Menin Gate, the Island of Ireland Peace Park at Ypres and the Thiepval Memorial.
Lauren Hastie and Cameron Rhodes were chosen to lay a special St Leonards wreath during the Last Post ceremony at the Menin Gate, on behalf of pupils, staff and Seniors,
For some, it was a chance to trace relatives who lost their lives in the First World War, hunting for names on the great memorials and walking up and down the rows and rows of graves in the war cemeteries in search of a piece of family history.
A tour of the trenches brought this period of history to life for the pupils, who found the whole experience both moving and fascinating.
Thank you to Ms Fulton, Mr Iannone and Mr McGinty for organising and accompanying such a memorable trip!
