On Monday, 27 November, two St Leonards students travelled to the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh to take part in the St Andrews Day Debate
Archie Clarke (Year 9) and Hannah Wood (Year 10) were invited to speak at the event due to a last-minute change in the line-up and were paired up with university students to prepare their arguments.
The pair both finished in second place out of four and first in their team of four against the opposition.
The day's motions included 'this house would hold CEOs criminally responsible for environmental damage'.
Both students learned a lot about different styles of debating and ways of expressing opinions.
Hannah said: 'Archie and I highly recommend the day as we gained much experience, which we can put to use in our debating society.'
Well done to both Hannah and Archie for taking part and speaking so well on the day!
