29.08.16 : A*s for St Leonards

The GCSE results are in for our Year 11 pupils.  St Leonards has achieved another strong set of results, as 90% of students achieved 5 or more A* - C grades.  The percentage of entries awarded A* or A grades underlined the school’s continued excellent academic reputation.

Top of the school tables was Maddie Anstruther with an excellent score of 8 A*s and 3 As.   Amongst many of the other high achievers were Megan Andrews (7 A*s), Annie Lennam (6 A*s), Catriona Cleary (5 A*s), Ben Caton and Jake Braun, each with (4 A*s) and Beatrix Livesey-Stephens and Kate Moran scoring (3 A*s).   Kate and her peer IIona Maclean also achieved the most A grades, both receiving 7 each.

Even our younger students aced their exams early.  Each year some children in Year 9 and 10 are given the chance to sit selected GCSEs early if they are felt to be ready. This year, 26 pupils in Year 10 sat and passed the Maths paper, with the majority scoring A* - A grades.  Year 10 pupils Jaquelyn Ryan,  Evie Hayward Daventry and Aenghus McGregor scored excellent A*s in their Chinese, Dutch and Latin GCSEs respectively.  Johanna Woitke and Aman Choudhry in Year 9,  sat their German GCSE early and both gained A*s in their papers.

Roma Dhasmana was just 13 when she sat her Maths GSCE and is now very pleased to announce she gained an A*.  The Year 10 student is delighted to have achieved her first GCSE early: “I didn't think I'd have the opportunity to take the exam so early and I'm glad that I could. It was good to finally find out what my result was and I am really happy with my grade”.

Dr Carslaw is delighted with this year’s top results, “I’m thrilled for all of our pupils, and their teachers, who have worked very hard to achieve a good set of results. All of our candidates deserve enormous credit for their efforts, from those who have achieved the top grades, to those who have applied themselves to exceed their own personal goals.  I am looking forward to watching our Year 11 class progress into Sixth Form to begin their next goal”.

The next study step for this talented year group is returning to school this week and entering the Sixth Form to study the International Baccalaureate.  Congratulations to all and good luck with the new school year!
