Amazing artwork on displayPicture: Art Exhibition 2010 visitors Amazing artwork created by pupils at St Leonards is going on public display. From June 7th -11th, the St Andrews school will throw open the doors to its Art studios for the annual St Leonards Art Exhibition which showcases the colourful creations and wonderful works produced by students over the past 12 months. Among the items on display in the extensive collection are paintings, carvings, photographs, an origami installation, sculptures and prints by talented young artists from Year 3 (P3) through to International Baccalaureate level (S5&S6). Speaking at a special exhibition preview night, Donna Rae, Head of Art and Design at St Leonards, said, “It’s a very diverse collection with lots of different mediums on show. “We had 17 International Baccalaureate candidates and 26 GCSE candidates this year. It was a very strong year for both groups and we are expecting a very good set of exam results. “It’s a privilege to work with such talented pupils.” Gordon MacDonald, Art Teacher at St Leonards-New Park – the junior school of St Leonards – said, “There’s a good variety of pieces and it’s nice to see all of the work from the year brought together.” The exhibition is open daily from 9am to 4pm (closed between 1pm and 2pm) and visitors are asked to sign in at the School Office upon arrival. However, a St Leonards Schoolboy had plenty to smile about after increasing his and his school’s tally of consecutive victories in a prestigious competition. At Loretto School’s Simmers Cup at Haddington, Year 8 (S1) student Alastair McDougall took home the U13 trophy for the third year on the trot, at the same time making it an incredible five years in a row that St Leonards has won the category. With Year 7 pupil Scott Goadby also enjoying victory in the U11 section and the St Leonards squad taking third place in the team event, it was a successful day all round for the St Andrews school. St Leonards Director of Golf, Rosie Dawson, said, “Everyone had a great day and I’m really proud of all the pupils for their fantastic performances. “They were up against some tough opposition on some tricky greens.” | |
